Facilities — steam room + hot & cold plunge pools

Warming the muscles before the massage is not a preamble — it's part of the treatment. A warm muscle is a responsive muscle. The steam and hot pool preparation means the 60-minute massage achieves what 90 minutes of massage on a cold body could not.

Balinese massage

The signature technique combines four elements: gentle stretching to open the body, rhythmic long strokes to move energy along the body's pathways, deep acupressure on specific points to release held tension, and skin rolling to stimulate circulation. Performed by expert therapists at our Ubud spa, the sequence is different from Swedish massage (which is primarily relaxation) and from deep tissue (which is primarily therapeutic). Balinese massage aims for both simultaneously.

What you walk away with

Deep muscle release — Acupressure and rhythmic strokes reach tension that surface massage misses — especially effective after a steam room preparation.

Restored energy flow — The Balinese massage technique follows the body's energy pathways. Most guests describe feeling more awake and clear after the session, not sleepy.

Reduced tension — Particularly effective for tension in the back, shoulders, and neck — the most common areas of chronic holding.

Improved circulation — The combination of contrast therapy and massage stimulates blood flow across the whole body.

Full-body integration — The stretching element integrates the work of the massage — rather than leaving individual muscles feeling treated in isolation.

Questions

About balinese massage

What guests usually ask before booking.

How is Balinese massage different from Swedish massage?

Swedish massage is primarily relaxation — long, gentle strokes across the muscle surface. Balinese massage is more active — it combines stretching, acupressure, and rhythmic work that engages both the relaxation and energetic systems of the body. Most guests find it more invigorating and more deeply releasing than Swedish.

Can I request strong pressure?

Yes — mention this in your booking notes. Our therapists are trained to adjust pressure throughout the session based on your preferences and feedback.

Is this available for couples?

Yes — all treatments at Hesa are designed for couples. Two therapists work simultaneously so you're treated side by side.

Can I add a scrub before my massage?

Yes — book the Korean Zen or Balinese Bliss full treatments for a complete scrub-plus-massage experience, or use the add-on system to add a 30-minute scrub to your session.
