Best Spa Facilities in Ubud, Bali

Hot. Cold. Steam.
The elements await.

Ubud's largest hot and cold plunge pools, a steam room, and the full science of contrast therapy — all in the heart of the jungle.

The science behind it

Why contrast therapy
actually works

Alternating between heat and cold is one of the oldest recovery methods known — practiced for centuries in Turkish hammams, Scandinavian saunas, Korean bathhouses, and Japanese onsens. Modern science has confirmed what those traditions understood intuitively.

Heat opens blood vessels, relaxes muscles, and prepares the body to receive. Cold closes vessels rapidly, flushes metabolic waste, reduces inflammation, and triggers a cascade of endorphins. The contrast between the two — not either alone — is where the real benefit happens.

At Hesa, the sequence is specific: steam first to open and prepare, hot pool to deepen the warmth, cold pool to shock and invigorate. You'll feel the difference within your first round.

How to use the facilities

A recommended sequence

There's no strict rule, but this is the sequence most guests settle into after their first visit — and the one that produces the best results.

01

Steam room — 10–15 min

Begin here. The steam opens your pores and relaxes your muscles. Take your time. Breathe slowly. Let the heat do its work before you move.

02

Hot plunge — 5–10 min

Move to the hot pool to deepen the warmth. Submerge fully if you can. The buoyancy of the water adds a quality of relaxation that standing or lying in a steam room can't match.

03

Cold plunge — 30–90 sec

Take the cold plunge. Use the sandglass provided. The first few seconds are the hardest — after that, the body adapts quickly. Exit when you feel alert and clear. Repeat 2–3 rounds.

Facilities only

Come for the pools.
Just the pools.

Full treatment not on the cards today? Book two hours of standalone facilities access — hot pool, cold pool, steam room. No treatment required. Two full hours gives you time for multiple rounds of contrast therapy: hot plunge → cold plunge → steam → repeat.

Many Ubud residents use this as a weekly reset. It's the most efficient way to spend two hours in Bali if your goal is to feel physically and mentally restored.

Treatment bookings include 30 minutes of facilities access for light preparation or a short post-treatment session — not the full contrast therapy experience.

Tips for first-timers

What to bring

A swimsuit is all you need. We provide towels, sarongs, and all toiletries at our Ubud location. Lockers, hair dryers, and plastic bags for wet swimwear are available.

The cold plunge

It's colder than you expect — 7–10°C. Start with 30 seconds. Breathe slowly. Don't fight the cold; let your body adjust. Most guests stay longer on the second round.

Water quality

All pool and steam room water is multi-filtered to the highest standards. Tap water is safe for washing and showering only — not for drinking. We provide mineral water in large gallon containers throughout the spa, along with infused mineral water (lime, mint, and cucumber) for your refreshment.

Arriving with a treatment

Treatment bookings include 30 minutes of facilities access for light preparation or a short post-treatment session — steam room and plunge pools are built into the timing. For the full contrast therapy experience with multiple rounds, book standalone facilities access (2 hours).

How long to stay

Standalone facilities access gives you 2 full hours for multiple rounds of contrast therapy — hot plunge, cold plunge, steam, repeat. Most guests settle into a rhythm of 3–4 cycles. A sandglass is placed at each pool to help you track time in the cold plunge.

Groups & couples

The pools are spacious and groups of any size are welcome — just coordinate with us first via WhatsApp for larger parties. We actively manage guest flow to keep the experience calm and unhurried. Groups receive dedicated pool use, and most of the time you'll find just 1–2 other guests around. For the quietest sessions, ask our staff or book at 09:00 (very quiet) or 19:00 (typically calm).
